The Haslemere Symphony Orchestra and Chorus have a programme of attractive pieces inspired by the Tennyson theme of the Festival. The showpiece is a setting by Stanford for chorus and orchestra of Tennyson’s poem The Revenge. The evening will include In Memoriam, a lyrical piece by Arthur Sullivan, also a dreamy choral setting by Edward Elgar of words by Tennyson There is sweet music, his Suite No 1 Wand of Youth, and the wonderful Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams. The final antiphon of the Songs will fittingly conclude the Festival Concert: Let all the world in every corner sing’. At Haslemere Hall, tickets £10 to £15, children £6 |

Owen classical piano recital Charles Owen, from Headley, near Haslemere, is one of
the finest young British pianists. He
has received outstanding critical acclaim for his recent CD recordings of music
by Janacek, Poulenc and Fauré and is much in demand around the world. His programme tonight brings together three

The Soldier's Tale is a Russian legend brought vividly to life by the music of Stravinsky which includes elements of jazz and tango. William Godfree directs a band of professional musicians – violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and percussion. A narrator tells the tale.
