CHILD ROLAND is written for ten boy and girl principals and a children’s chorus, drawn from local schools in 3 counties – Amery Hill, Bohunt, Midhurst Rother Academy, St Edmunds and Woolmer Hill. Two professional singers take the parts of Merlin/The King of Elfland and Queen Guinevere. There is also an adult chorus and orchestra.  Don’t miss it! Bell Ringing – Have a Go

Come and find out what all the noise is about!  Why were there bells in the front boat of the Queen's Jubilee pageant? And why did Wiggo ring a bell at the Olympics Opening Ceremony?  Learn about how the Olympics are coming to Haslemere soon.  Have a go at hand-bells, try and chime the tenor, learn what a "touch" is, and see how scary 2 tons of metal are when they are tossing around.  At the end you'll understand why YMCAfit have declared it the best exercise of mind, body and spirit for those aged 9 or 90, and the preferred pastime of maths professors. Take our quiz and then relax with another English tradition: a cream tea.

Cost: £4 or £1.50 for children to cover the costs of the tea; the bell-ringing, as always, is free! St Bartholomew’s Church

Room on the Broom and other Stories

Julia Donaldson

An hour of fun with award-winning author Julia Donaldson.  Along with her husband Malcolm, Julia will be acting out her stories and singing her songs - with lots of help from the audience.

Come and meet the witch from Room on the Broom, a Singing Mermaid, a Cave Baby, and help Julia celebrate the 20th birthday of Julia’s very first book, A Squash and a Squeeze.  After the event, Julia will be signing copies of her books. Suitable for children of 4 and over.

Julia Donaldson is the Children’s Laureate. Her rhyming stories regularly top the children’s best selling charts, and the animation of Room on the Broom was a big hit on BBC television at Christmas. Julia has also written many songs, plays and novels, and is the author of the popular Songbirds series of phonic reading books for schools. At Haslemere Hall, tickets £6
