Haunted Haslemere Ghost Walk  Town Clerk Mike O'Neil has researched local ghost stories and will tell you about the Museum ghost, the Town House ghost (its vicar occupier by day and what he became at night), the first Policeman in Surrey to be brutally murdered outside the Town Hall and the monk of monk's walk. If you want to feel the chill that comes from a spooky tale this is one event not to be missed.  Meet at the Town Hall. The Queen's Royal (West Surrey) Regiment 1661-1959  An account of the deeds of West Surrey's famous infantry regiment. Ian Chatfield, curator of the Regimental Museum, gives a slide show and talk on the founding of the regiment from the first muster on Putney Heath to service throughout the days of empire-building, revolutions and the World Wars. The Coming of the Railway to Haslemere  In 1859, 150 years ago, the line from Guildford to Havant through Haslemere was opened. To mark the occasion the Circle 8 film group will be showing their film which traces the spread of railway lines from Guildford from 1855, through early electrification, the war years and the Beeching years to the present day. Railway buffs will be delighted to know that as an added bonus the 4 minute London to Brighton film and the Brookwood Cemetery Line film will also be shown. Haslemere Hall, tickets £3

The Oriental Rug Gallery Sandra Blake and Anas Al Akahoann will give a talk and demonstration on the rich cultural heritage of traditional hand-woven rugs and carpets. The Long Range Desert Group by Kit Maxwell. The background traces the political events leading up to UK's African campaign in WWII. The specific story is about the Group's momentous 1940 - 1941 raid on the remote desert oasis of Murzuq. It appeals equally well to a civilian audience as it is pictorial with some beautiful photography. It is a fast moving tale of desert travel backed with images of dunes, nomads, Roman remains and prehistoric rock art.   At Haslemere Museum, tickets £3
