Talk: Haslemere in Transition

Chris Harrison tells the story of Haslemere’s journey from a rotten borough in the eighteenth century to a magnet for writers, intellectuals, scientists and artists in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries – told through the Haslemere Society’s Blue Plaque scheme, which Chris has run since its inception 10 years ago. He will share perspectives on Haslemere’s history, illuminated by the stories behind the 12 plaques that commemorate the events and famous individuals who have shaped the town’s heritage.
